We are the Sprocket Holes vol. 83

Twitch Trailer Times;

Spanish Trailer For Stefano Bessoni’s IMAGO MORTIS Plus A Look At His Next.

Posted by Todd Brown at 4:50am.

Posted in Trailer Alerts , Horror, Continental Europe & Russia.

Stefano Bessoni’s Imago Mortis is a film that we’ve been tracking for a good long time around these parts. From the producers of Pan’s Labyrinth and The Orphanage and the script writer of [REC], Bessoni’s film follows a college student who stumbles across a secret society obsessed with capturing images of death through the eyes of the dying - and isn’t afraid to kill to get them. We ran the italian trailer for the film some time back but with a Spanish release coming in July we now have a Spanish trailer as well. And, as an added perk, Bessoni has also passed along design sketches from his next film - the upcoming Galgenlieder, based on the Song of the Gallows by Christian Morgenstern.

Check the trailers below the break and hit the link below for the images.

Two Teasers For Gaspar Noe’s ENTER THE VOID

I’m not one hundred percent certain that these were legitimately released rather than leaked and so I’m not certain how long they will remain available, but two very brief teasers for Irreversible director Gaspar Noe’s latest have arrived online. Enter The Void proved to be one of the more divisive films at a hugely divisive Cannes Film Festival this year and we’re awaiting a review or two on it from those who were able to stay until the end of the fest - I had to leave before the film screened - but you can find the teasers below the break.

What Goes Better With Dinner Than Chainsaws? Nothing! It’s The First Trailer For MACABRE

Posted by Todd Brown at 11:53am.

Posted in Trailer Alerts , Horror, Asia.

Macabre tells the tale of the most horrifying night for 6 friends. Two newly weds Adjie and Astrid, along with 3 of their best friends decided to have an interstate road trip as a last attempt to reconcile Adjie with his estranged little sister Ladya. Their drive is however being cut abruptly when they run into Maya, a strange out of nowhere girl who wanders aimlessly into their path. “I’ve been robbed” is all she has to say, the friends unanimously decided to give her a ride to her isolated house by the end of the woods.

Maya introduces Adjie and friends to her courteous blue-blooded mother; Dara, a woman of ageless enigma, and few spoken words. Dara insisted that their Samaritan act should be repaid with a feastly dinner. This is where the night turns into a crimson-hell for the 6 friends; finding themselves trapped and hunted by Dara and her cult-like family of three deadly protégés, born and raised to systematically eliminate unsuspecting passerby for one nefarious reason. One by one slaughtered, everybody will bleed, the darkest of night never looked so red.

We’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Indonesian horror film Macabre - the feature length expansion of stellar short project Dara - from the Mo Brothers for a good lon gtime around these parts and now we are finally rewarded with the first teaser for the film. The goal on this one was to wed Eastern and Western horror styles and it looks to me like they’ve done rather well, indeed. Check it out below the break.

Homework Sucks vol. 2

part of me is gone. hiding? auto-corpsed out?

i'm remembering ten years ago, when i loved someone so intensely, so passionately, that i sincerely believed the fate of the world was dependent on whether or not the two of us would ever be together.

if yes, it would be a lifetime of splendor the likes of which no one could ever dream.

if no, it would plunge us all into the acidic lungs of a red-death nightmare from which we would never wake.

i know now that life never begins to approach the intensity of either one of those scenarios. the truth is this simple;

if yes, we would've dated/fucked for 6 months to a year, and given her personality as it was (and as i've finally come to see it), she would've gotten bored with me, and cheated on me, and she'd have to deal with the vendetta that is seemingly inate due to my Sicilian half.

if no, well.... here we are.

all things considered, i guess shit turned out alright. i may be miserable, but it's my misery... mine to work with and control. Unhappy people are unhappy for their own reasons, and thus they have their own identity. Happy people are all the same.... have the same outlook on life... exploit the same metaphors... thus they are all the same.

I apologize for the Hot Topicyness of that last observation.

Brainmares vol. 7

walking behind a pond. i spot my uncle. he is meeting my father. my father shows up with my grandfather, who is in a wheel chair, his bones twisted. he is moaning "LOVE" out of his crooked, drooling mouth. My grandfather has been dead for 3 years. My father injecting him in the heart with some radioactive sludge to bring him back to life. He gradually becomes more human, but he is still child like, as the years of being dead have left his brain little more than red jelly sloshing around inside his skull.

Brainmares vol. 6

i'm fucking some girl, and there is blood in my ejaculate. then i go to Tori Amos house, and her manager, Teddy P from BURNT BY THE SUN, tells me to stay the fuck away from her, she's getting married, stop stalking her, etc. I beat him within an inch of his life and tell Amos to get raped again.

Homework Sucks vol. 1

don't ask me why i'm doing this. it's cloudy, i'm bored, and i just started reminiscing about how much i fucking hated middle and high school.

I was thinking about 1994-5, when i first really discovered music, and thought about what was popular at that time. Grunge was out, Industrial Rock was in. NIN, MINISTRY, and WHITE ZOMBIE were favorites of mine, and i dug MARILYN MANSON if only for his absurd visual flair, and i still contend that these are perfect gateway bands to real industrial/experimental music. They were non-threatening invitations to the big boys clubhouse; just abrasive enough to cause your parents worry, but not so challenging that girls wouldn't talk to you for liking their music.

Then came the knock-offs...

this is the garbage that bridged the bland grunge of the early 90s with the obnoxious bounce rock of the late 90s/early 00s. hoooo boy howdy do these bands suck. this was the kind of music the so called dark and mysterious hot chick would listen to, and guys who wanted to DNA wax her vaginal walls would have to pretend these posing clown shoes were just as valid as the real groups ala THROBBING GRISTLE, SPK, TEST DEPT, KILLING JOKE, SWANS, BIG BLACK, FOETUS, IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES, or bestial industrial tinged metal acts like GODFLESH, SKIN CHAMBER, CANDIRU, SPINE WRENCH, shit even Trent Reznor and Al Jourgenson had good ears for tones and melodies, even if they did co-opt much of their imagery and ideas from assorted underground groups. Point being, despite their assorted thievery, they at least came into their own by the time Downward Spiral and Pslam 69 come about. These bands are nothing but hollow copy cats; a putrid amalgam of pop music cliches, arena metal riffs, and self-consciously brooding stage presence.

You'll notice all these bands are basically limp-dick pop rock, only the guitars are sort of crunchy, the syth beats are hijacked from SKINNY PUPPY's "Dig It", and they sing all scratchy throated and "tortured", even though they're just singing about girls they wanna fuck instead of exploring the genuinely transgressive subject matter that permeated the acts of genre's gestation period.

like these fanny bandits;

GOD LIVES UNDERWATER - "All Wrong"

jesus... was this video directed by the inventor of Skittles? what's with the colors, assholes?

That's another thing these bands seem to exploit in their videos; harsh neon lighting.

listen to those lyrics... this might as well be a Michael Bolton song. Sure it sounds all gloomy and distorted and the singer's dark hair (which is also brooding) is covering his eyes to further tell the viewer "CHECK OUT MY MISERY", but all he's talking about is some girl he loves. THERE IS NO LOVE ALLOWED IN INDUSTRIAL. unless it's WHITEHOUSE talking about raping a limbless orphan who's covered in 4th degree burns with a rusty motorcycle chain, then drowning them in a kiddie pool full of chlorinated dog urine and lined with splintered crack pipes. That's Industrial Love.

and howbout these cockbombs? ;

"Head Like A Hole? never heard of 'em!"

christ on an ass... how do people get away with making music this transparently hacky? Is it some sort of joke?

fuck this... here's some of that real thing;

there... now mine ears be cleansed with scrap metal and misanthropic existentialism.

U.S.A.! U.S.A.! vol. 24

Amid recession, two wars and swine flu, conservatives assail Obama over Dijon

By Lee-Anne Goodman, The Canadian Press

WASHINGTON - The United States is in the midst of a devastating recession, mired in two overseas wars and grappling with a swine flu outbreak, but conservative critics are assailing President Barack Obama on another pressing issue: his choice of burger topping.

Dijongate is in full force, with Fox News and a conservative blogger leading the charge against the president for his choice of the apparently un-American mustard atop his cheeseburger during a recent impromptu lunch stop with Vice-President Joe Biden.

There's no evidence of wiretapped hotel rooms or a Deep Throat lurking in the shadows, but there are indeed accusations of a coverup - MSNBC, apparently, edited out the president's request for Dijon in order to help Obama maintain his "man of the people" street cred.

Fox's Sean Hannity has been telling his viewers that MSNBC - and reporter Andrea Mitchell in particular - are trying to hide Obama's Dijon-loving ways from the public.

Hannity has been referring to the president's lunch as his "fancy burger."

"It was Grey Poupon, which is equally snotty," alleged one commenter on Hannity's website.

William Jacobson, a Cornell law school professor who has also been blogging about Dijongate, noted that Mitchell "didn't mention one arugula-like fact" about Obama's order earlier this week at Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington, Va.

Jacobson said the MSNBC video of the stop at Ray's cuts out just as Obama asks for Dijon. He refers to MSNBC as "Obama's favourite network."

"MSNBC edited out the audio when Obama ordered his Hell Burger just at the moment when Obama asked for Dijon mustard," Jacobson wrote in a Thursday post entitled "Thou Shalt Not Mock Obama's Mustard."

"Now, I have nothing against Dijon mustard, but the image didn't fit with the image being spun by the White House and MSNBC. Dijon mustard on a Hell Burger had a very John Kerry-ish quality about it."

Jacobson blogged about other incidents in which Obama has revealed his weakness for the spicy French condiment.

It's a key ingredient, for example, in the president's favourite tuna salad, and he also had the gall to request it during his first trip on Air Force One.

"And the mainstream media didn't cover it," Jacobson wrote.

It all hearkens back to those silly days of "freedom fries," the name given to French fries by hawkish conservatives in 2003 when France expressed strong opposition to the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

The French stance resulted in a call from American right-wingers for a boycott of French goods and the removal of the country's name from products. That left America's best-selling mustard - French's - in a bit of a quandary.

French's, in fact, figures prominently in a Dijon-related anecdote Obama himself chronicled in his book, "The Audacity of Hope."

He told the story of his first tour through Illinois, when he ordered Dijon on his cheeseburger at a TGI Friday's.

His panicked political aide assured the waitress that Obama didn't want Dijon at all and waved her away, thrusting a bottle of French's at him instead. The waitress, perplexed, assured Obama that she had Dijon if he wanted it.

"As the waitress walked away, I leaned over and whispered that I didn't think there were any photographers around," Obama wrote.

The anecdote underscored Obama's thoughts on what he viewed as the absurdity of focusing on non-issues in politics.

"What's troubling is the gap between the magnitude of our challenges and the smallness of our politics-the ease with which we are distracted by the petty and trivial," he wrote.

One commenter on Jacobson's blog mocked Dijongate on Thursday: "Wait till the right finds out he eats guacamole, then he'll be seen as a pro-immigrant nut job. God forbid he ever takes a bite of hummus!"

Jacobson, however, insists that alleged efforts to cover up Obama's choice of mustard this week are newsworthy.

"I don't think anyone is 'upset' with his choice of mustard, although that is how some are spinning it," Jacobson said in an e-mail. "It is the absurd level of image control, which is not trivial."

Nonetheless, some of the right's attacks on Obama have bordered on the inane, subjecting conservatives to ridicule.

Comedian Bill Maher, a longtime libertarian, recently maligned the right and their fixation on the trivial in an opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times.

"Here are the big issues for normal people: the war, the economy, the environment, mending fences with our enemies and allies, and the rule of law," Maher wrote.

"And here's the list of Republican obsessions since President Obama took office: that his birth certificate is supposedly fake, he uses a TelePrompTer too much, he bowed to a Saudi guy, Europeans like him, he gives inappropriate gifts, his wife shamelessly flaunts her upper arms, and he shook hands with Hugo Chavez and slipped him the nuclear launch codes."

Conservatives, Maher wrote, are now behaving like "the bitter divorced guy whose country has left him - obsessing over it, haranguing it, blubbering one minute about how much you love it and vowing the next that if you cannot have it, nobody will," he wrote.

"But ... your country is not coming back to you. She's found somebody new. And it's a black guy."

Tsukamoto’s BULLET MAN Is Actually TETSUO 3!

Posted by Todd Brown at 9:44am.

Posted in Film News , Cult, Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Asia.

Oh, my. I must confess that I did not see this coming. As is the case with all things Shinya Tsukamoto, I have been anxiously awaiting any new or information from his upcoming Bullet Man from the day I first heard of it. And like all things Tsukamoto, the director has been more than content to keep things close to the chest and make people wait until he was good and ready to show any materials from the picture. This is normal behavior for the Japanese auteur. What is unusual, however, is for the man to engage in a game of bait and switch and so I never imagined that Bullet Man could actually be a shadow project with a deliberately misleading title - I’d always figured that if it had any connection to Tsukamoto’s earlier work it would be to Bullet Ballet - desgined to draw attention away from the fact that this is the twentieth anniversary of his arrival on the scene with the iconic Testuo: The Iron Man.

Yes, you’ve got it right. Bullet Man does not actually exist. What does, however, is The Tetsuo Project - the third installment in Tsukamoto’s series of films about man/machine hybrids and the first English language film of his career. Screen Daily broke the news and while it’s still light on detail the film will be present in the Cannes Marche Du Film so expect to be seeing more about it in these pages soon.

EDIT: Here's Bloody Disgusting's article on the matter.
