Now That JOKER Has Won At The Oscars, Can We Let The Joker Be Fun Again?
i'm into it, but i fear that it will have the opposite effect. much like how Anthony Hopkins turn as Hannibal Lecter doomed audiences to years of films and books where the serial killer was portrayed not as a cretinously violent self-obsessive but as a high-brow charismatic super-genius always fifteen steps ahead of his persecutors, i believe we'll more than likely see super-villains portrayed not as fantastically terroristic encapsulations of the mind's most loathsome desires but as clumsily inarticulate societal detritus to be trotted out by major corporations seeking to shamelessly exploit and demonize the very real inhabitants of society (shut up) who are terminally overwhelmed by its myriad pressures and ballistic anxieties.
the zeitgeist is tapped out, broh. gimme back the grinning green-haired ghoul with the poisoned fish and the parade floats full of laughing gas.
